Internal linking: the links suggested by your AI on your data

Drawing on the crawl, Cartograph builds the map of the site’s clusters and counts, page by page, the contextual internal links each one receives, without taking the menu or the footer into account. This data is cross-referenced with Search Console to spot the pages that generate impressions while lacking links. Thanks to the MCP, your AI goes through this map and the real queries, before suggesting the links. You approve ; the placement happens in your CMS.

The reading

What Cartograph calculates

A reading of the linking built on the crawl and cross-referenced with Search Console, page by page.

  • The mapping of the site’s clusters, language by language.
  • The count of contextual internal links received by each page, menu and footer excluded.
  • The pages with insufficient linking, ranked according to their Search Console impressions.
  • Anchors drawn from the real queries of the target page.

The AI suggests, you decide, you deploy

The Link builder view shows its targets and the anticipated impact. Only the links present in the content are taken into account, menu and footer excluded. No change is made to the site without your agreement.

Internal linking in SEO Cartograph

Internal linking is the way a site’s pages cite one another. It guides navigation, but above all it distributes authority between pages and signals to search engines which ones matter. SEO Cartograph starts from the site crawl to build the cluster map, language by language, and count the contextual links each page receives, without taking the menu or the footer into account.

Readable clusters, page by page

A cluster groups the pages that deal with the same theme and refer to one another. By counting the real internal links, Cartograph brings out the isolated pages and those whose linking remains too weak to hope to climb. The count covers only the links present in the content, where the transfer of authority happens.

The most common mistake in internal linking

On most sites, internal linking is never really decided: links get added as articles go along, based on what the author remembers, with no overview of which pages are missing them. The most telling symptom shows up in Search Console: a page that racks up impressions, sometimes several hundred a month, without receiving a single internal link from the rest of the site. This page exists, it is indexed, it appears in searches, but nothing pushes it from within the site. Cartograph makes this case visible by cross-referencing the count of links received with each page’s impressions, which makes it possible to spot first the pages that deserve a link before those that already have several.

Cross-referenced with Search Console

The pages with insufficient linking are ranked according to their Search Console impressions. A page that generates impressions without receiving an internal link becomes a priority target. The Link builder then suggests a link from the source page to the target, with an anchor drawn from the real queries of the target page. You approve each suggestion, then place it in your CMS.

  • Linking left to chance produces pages with no incoming links at all.
  • A page with strong impressions and no internal link becomes a priority target.
  • The Link builder suggests a contextual link with an anchor drawn from queries.
  • Cartograph maps internal linking by cluster, language by language.
